Lydia Tomlinson Supports Smart Works Greater Manchester image

We are thrilled to be working with Lydia Tomlinson, a Manchester based fashion Influencer on our Give The Gift Of Confidence campaign.

With over 350k followers, Lydia makes fashion and styling content and runs The Millennial Girl’s Guide. Passionate about empowering women, Lydia speaks about Smart Works in her latest video and how being confident in your outfit is so important, how it has impacted her career and how you can help be part of another women’s success story by donating.

“With more women than ever being unemployed across Greater Manchester, together we are asking you to support their campaign #givethegiftofconfidence and donate interview-appropriate clothing as I’ve just done, and if you can spare £5, £10 or £25, please donate and support an unemployed woman on her journey into work.”

We are so proud to be working with Lydia and appreciate her support. Click  here to watch the video on how to dress for an interview, which will be so helpful for our clients.

How We’re Continuing To Help Women During Lockdown image

Together, we’ve got this.

As we head into a second lockdown, at Smart Works, we will continue to be here for any women who needs our support.

Our virtual service will continue. For women seeking an interview, our career coaching service will help them get to the next stage.  For women with an interview, we will deliver one to one interview coaching and a bespoke parcel of wardrobe essentials, delivered to their door, so that they can look and feel great at their interview.

We are so grateful for all the support we have received, and never has our work meant more. Unemployment is at its highest level in three years and the women we support are disproportionately impacted.

This is a difficult time for everyone, but we have been through this before and like then, we will work together to come out the other side.

We cannot wait to welcome our clients back into our centres hopefully in December and in the meantime, we will be monitoring the situation closely and make changes to our service as necessary.

Young Women’s Programme Launches image

We’re so excited to be launching our Young Women’s Programme, supporting more young women prepare for their job interviews.

Smart Works Greater Manchester has received funding from the European Social Fund to help more unemployed 16-25 year olds. We’ll be contacting organisations who can help us introduce the Smart Works service to relevant young women, and organise dedicated days to help them “fashion their future” choosing high quality interview clothes and receiving one to one interview coaching.

We would also like to take this opportunity to introduce Harley. Harley has joined the team to run our YWP and is already off to an amazing start. She recently spent a morning with our stylists finding an interview outfit and some clothes for her new role (swipe to see) experiencing the Smart Works magic first hand.

We can’t wait to see more young women find their way to Smart Works, alongside still supporting all of our amazing clients we see every day.

For more information, click here to watch a short video on the service.

To refer a client, please call 0161 974 0669 or email harley.crolla@smartworks.org.uk for more info.

Smart Works Greater Manchester Reopens image

After a trial reopening through August, Smart Works Greater Manchester is now fully back in business delivering face to face client appointments from its centre in Stockport.

During lockdown, we have delivered over 100 appointments supporting unemployed women across Greater Manchester via online Coaching Sessions and sending out clothing packages to them in the post. The online service will continue for those who are unable to visit in person and run alongside the face to face styling and dressing service.

We received a grant from the Manchester Airport Community Trust Fund to help with the costs of getting our centre ready for reopening, funding additional tech, protective screens and other necessary equipment to help ensure we provide a safe and welcoming environment.

Alison Lever, Treasurer of Smart Works Greater Manchester, said “We have really valued the support we have received from the Manchester Airport Community Trust Fund, it came at just the right time with more women having lost their jobs due to Covid-19. This grant has facilitated the purchase of all of the essential equipment that we needed to create a safe environment for our clients, volunteers and staff”.

Jan Iceton, Chair of Smart Works Greater Manchester, said: “The sheer volume of women the charity has supported in the last five years demonstrates the need for a service like ours across the 10 Boroughs of Greater Manchester and the wider North West region. We encourage all women who have an interview lined up to reach out to us through the many referral partners we work with, from organisations such as Job Centre Plus and Ingeus, to other women’s organisations and charities. We can, and we will, help the region get back in its feet after Covid”.

Karen Smart, Managing Director at Manchester Airport, said: “For more than 20 years our Community Trust Fund has provided vital support to organisations across the region.

During the pandemic it was great we could use the fund to support a range of organisations’ Covid-19 relief efforts. It’s therefore extremely pleasing to see the benefit come to fruition for Smart Works Greater Manchester.”

About the Manchester Airport Community Trust Fund: Each year, Manchester Airport donates more than £100,000 to the Community Trust Fund, as well as the income it receives from fines levied on aircraft exceeding noise limits when operating out of the airport.

Started in 1997, The Manchester Airport Community Fund has donated more than £3.6m to over 1,600 local community, social and environmental groups in Greater Manchester and Cheshire.

The Community Trust Fund award grants to a maximum of £3,000 meetings are held quarterly to award the funding. Local groups within a 10mile radius of the airport can apply for funding online by 29 November 2020 before the next meeting. WIN Manchester Event – Pioneering the Future, with Courage image

Smart Works Greater Manchester is thrilled to be participating in the WIN Manchester event on 18th June. The whole purpose of our charity is about empowering and women to “get the clothes, get the confidence, get the job” and being involved with the WIN community of supportive, authentic and professional women is very much welcomed.

The future for unemployed women across Greater Manchester is being challenged like never before in the recent past as unemployment soars and company collapses become more and more prevalent. It is vitally important to shine a light on our charity as we are here to help and support them by coaching them to build a winning CV, translate their experiences into core job competencies, learn how to be successful with online interviews and, when things return to normal, come to us for their capsule working wardrobe.

You can help ….. please show your support by donating a loved but perhaps infrequently used smart work bag which we will style along with a full interview outfit for our clients. And we would love you to download this form to add a personalised “pioneering the future, with courage” message of encouragement and pop it in the bag for the beneficiary to read and get that final boost she needs.

Our Response To COVID-19 image

Following the latest advice from the Government, and in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have taken the decision to make considerable adaptions to our service for the foreseeable future.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
For now, we will not be continuing face-to-face delivery of our Smart Works dressing and interview coaching service. It is with huge regret and sadness that we will not be able to welcome our clients and volunteers into our centre for the time being. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
However, it remains our absolute commitment to help any woman who needs our support. Whilst our phones are still ringing and whilst we are still able, we will be delivering a virtual service to any woman who is referred to us. Each woman will receive one-to-one interview preparation over the phone with one of our expert coaching volunteers. ⁣⁣⁣Please get in touch via greatermanchester@smartworks.org.uk or 0161 974 0669 to make an appointment.
⁣⁣⁣
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and update with any changes. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
These are challenging times for everyone, but we know that it will end, and when it does, we will be here ready to bring our service to the many women who will need our help. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Until then, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone in our community for their positivity, passion and commitment to our Charity

In The Press – Jan’s Smart Move image

We were very excited to open this months issue of Salutions Didsbury Magazine to see our Chair Jan Iceton talk about our service here at Smart Works Greater Manchester and how you can support.

Highlighted in the article is the Spin for Smart Works challenge, Jan says;

“It costs around £2000 a week to keep our doors open and Spin for Smart Works is our major 2020 fundraising event. Please pedal for a purpose and join our regional effort to make 2020 our 5th and best year yet!”

We are loving having the magazines out in reception for our clients and supporters to read whilst enjoying a cuppa and cake !

Thank you Salutions for the feature.
