New Partnership! University of Manchester Netball Team image

The University of Manchester’s Netball Team have recently begun supporting Smart Works Greater Manchester after finding out more about what we do and the women we help.

They have been keen to get involved in Spin for Smart Works 2019, taking a break from their normal training programme to cycle 500 miles in support of our Greater Manchester centre. They have signed up an amazing 4 teams and we cant wait to see how they all get on.

The support of a local University team is an exciting new partnership for us at Smart Works Greater Manchester, and we are looking forward to working with them.

“After meeting Sadie from Smart Works and hearing all about the amazing work that the charity does in Manchester, and nation-wide, to prepare disadvantaged women for jobs and employment, we knew we wanted to get involved. As a club of 60-strong young women, we identify with the Smart Works mission to empower women, giving them the confidence they need to achieve in the job market.

Our teams will be swapping our regular fitness sessions for the Spin for Smart Works Challenge, in the hope of raising as much as we can to support the great work being done in our city. It is going to be tough, but we are the last to say that we’re not (just a little bit) competitive on and off the netball court, so we’ll be battling it out with each other for the 500 mile target! That said, we love the fact that this is a team challenge that we can all get stuck into together and share the miles.

The University of Manchester Women’s Netball Club certainly feels like a family as we train together 3-4 times a week on top of our BUCS matches and Sports Night socials! We can’t wait to take on this new challenge together- bring on spin!”

– Elizabeth Wallis, Charity Secretary of UoM Netball Club.

Timetastic supports Greater Manchester image

Timetastic are an exciting new partnership for us. They have recently begun supporting our Greater Manchester centre by kindly setting up a regular donation. Such donations are crucial in supporting us to continue delivering our core service and enabling us to help more women.

We are so grateful for the support from Timetastic and look forward to working with them in the future.

“We’ve been looking to develop our corporate citizenship programme, especially within the local community. We love our hometown of Manchester, and although we’re only a small company we’re immensely proud that we can have a genuine impact by funding organisations like Smart Works.

You only have to see the positive impact they are having on women’s lives, becoming a regular donor was a no brainer.”

– Gary Bury, Founder of Timetastic

Spin for Smart Works is a week-long cycling challenge that will kick off on Friday 1st March 2019 and speed through until Friday 8th March, ending on International Women’s Day. Teams of five will join forces to collectively reach the 500-mile target, the distance between our seven centres.

Smart Works Summer Ball 2018 image

June 2018 saw Smart Works Greater Manchester’s summer ball host nearly 200 gorgeous guests and raise a fantastic amount of money for the women of Manchester.

Not just an opportunity to dress up

Throughout the night there was a raffle, an auction – amongst which was a signed Manchester United shirt – and speeches from Manchester’s manager Fiona Gunnion and guest speaker Sharon Amesu.

Local band Fee Fee and the Sentiments were one of the highlights of the night. The dance floor was constantly full while they were playing. Everyone loved their music and Smart Works would highly recommend them for any future events. For more information on the vintage band, click here.

New Partner! Smart Works MCR and Safestore image

August pop up sale

A couple of weeks ago Smart Works Greater Manchester hosted an amazing pop-up sale in John Lewis in aid of Manchester’s women. The amount of stock our volunteers managed to turn over was incredible and we couldn’t have done it without the help of our new partner: Safestore in Stockport.

With the huge influx of donations that SmartWorks GM has recently received, our office simply couldn’t hold it all. That’s where Safestore came to the rescue and offered a storage unit for free. As a relatively small charity, every penny saved counts towards helping our clients; we are so grateful to Safestore and their contribution to our work.

About Safestore

Safestore provide secure self storage in the centre of Stockport and are flexible to every individual’s storage requirements. Smart Works Greater Manchester highly recommends their business. To find out more, follow the links below.
